We take responsibility for exposed concrete — in new builds and existing structures, from technical substance to perfectly finished surface.
Partner firm of SB5ÜNF GmbH.
We bring your in-situ concrete to factory quality. What appears when the formwork comes off is raw. The specified exposed-concrete class only emerges through our finishing process.
Before we start, we analyse your needs based on the specified class and your project's individual requirements. From there, we develop the design concept (Gestaltungskonzept) together with you. Execution then follows in five steps.
What couldn't be settled at the desk — measure, tone, sheen, depth — is settled on site. The sample surface we create serves as the reference for the entire area. What's agreed here, holds.
Cement laitance runs, rust stains, formwork oil, pencil marks, other soiling. The original concrete tone is exposed without harming the surface. Tailored to substrate and damage profile — mechanical or manual.
Anchor holes, formwork imprints, wood grain, edges, joints. What was lost during casting is remodelled — down to the original grain, indistinguishable from the existing surface. Edges, formwork seams and geometries are precisely reworked by hand.
Concrete-look matching across the surface, age-typical patina, discolouration, pour lines. Carried out with the eye of the artist and the hand of the restorer. We apply colour matching with mineral systems that don't form a film coating, but bond with the substrate.
Hydrophobic sealing, glaze, anti-graffiti — wherever the project calls for it. On façades almost always sensible, indoors often unnecessary. Mineral glazes bind dust, control sheen and unify the overall appearance — without losing the natural nuance of the concrete.
The DBV/VDZ Sichtbeton code of practice defines four classes — from SB1 with the lowest to SB4 with the highest requirements. A class is specified — yet what the final result will look like is not stated in the code. What matters in the end is the overall effect, not the sum of individual criteria. For this, the DBV provides for the design concept (Gestaltungskonzept). We develop it together with you: Which efflorescence fits, which disturbs? When do you preserve the natural character, when do you counteract? This way the concrete keeps its character, the structural contractor delivers exactly what was agreed, and the architect's vision takes tangible form.
On request we also issue specialist statements. Just get in touch.
Wherever your project is. With our nationwide network of specialists, we're on site fast — even for large surfaces and tight deadlines.
The Orbit Lab is our laboratory for special surfaces — material research, tool-making and design invention in one space. Here we develop bespoke wall designs in form, colour and materiality at the highest level — in close coordination with architectural studios and building owners. What we particularly love about the Lab: solutions emerge here as a side effect — for material questions we hadn't even asked ourselves.
On site, the Lab becomes mobile. For every task we develop the right process — including bespoke tools when the market offers none. The University of Konstanz is the most recent example: here the challenge was to render fine wood textures with an OS-4-certified material across more than 1,000 m².
Most of those working with Orbit Werk are trained artists — painters, sculptors, restorers and set designers. People who speak the language of aesthetics and translate it into concrete. Around this core we compose teams of 1–10 concrete specialists, tailored to each challenge.
Partner firm of SB5ÜNF GmbH: Orbit Werk emerged from seven years of joint exposed-concrete work with SB5ÜNF GmbH — one of the leading specialists in exposed concrete in Germany under managing director Felix Sommer, whose book Beton und Nicht-Beton (Jovis Verlag) documents the state of practice. Today we work side by side, especially on complex challenges, pooling our combined expertise.
